Portrait of our Pilates Instructor Joan Would MCSP

We have known Joan for many years. Her daughter Adele has been a regular client with her beatiful big grey horse Rupert (Nimbus), who some of you may recognise from their appearances in Your Horse magazine, and Joan comes along to watch their training sessions whenever she can find the time.

Joan is a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and has been HPC registered (state registered) for donkeys years and still works very actively in this field being a Clinical Specialist with the Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust.

Joan has also practiced hipotherapy (physiotherapy using the movements of the horse) for 30 years and has been involved with RDA for many years putting these skills into practice.

She also specialises in rider analysis, for both the able bodied and disabled, using a computer aided electro-goniometer to show the position and movements of the pelvis while riding.

The results of this research into rider analysis has formed the basis of many papers and presentations she has made at about a dozen international conferences.

With her additional training in Pilates and knowing that more recently she has specialised in tailoring Pilates exercises to suit sports-people such as golfers, cyclists and horse-riders, she seemed an obvious port of call to help us establish some classes here, and we are very pleased she has managed to find the time to fit us into her already busy schedule.
